The perfect retro pre-Halloween afternoon, join us for this highly influential silent horror film accompanied by local composer, Matthew Marshall playing an original score live. Watch as the mysterious Count Orlok (Max Schreck) summons Thomas Hutter (Gustav van Wangenheim) to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains.
[Matt Marshall] Accompanist – Matt Marshall: Film Lecturer, screenwriter and film composer. He teaches courses on film criticism and history at the University of Virginia and Hollins University. Marshall has been composing and performing live music accompaniment to classic silent films for over 15 years for the Virginia Film Festival and other venues. He has recorded soundtracks for the British Edition of Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid as well as George Melies’ Conquest of the Pole. His most recent performance was for the 90th Anniversary screening of Body and Soul by pioneer African American director Oscar Micheaux at the historic Grandin Theatre in Roanoke Virginia. Marshall is thrilled to be back in Charlottesville and playing at The Paramount.
