Downtown Art Project The DBAC is looking to decorate the vacant storefronts on the Downtown Mall. Contributed art work will be displayed in the windows of the available storefronts on a monthly basis. We plan to kick off the Downtown Art Project at "First Fridays" on April 4, 2008. Sumissions are accepted from any organization that has visual art. Thiis can include schools, associations or any other community group. Do not let this opportunity pass you by! What's New? The Department of Parks and Recreation have installed several dozen dark green recycling containers on each side of the Downtown Mall and around the Dowtown Transit Center and City Hall. The Containers accept glass bottles, aluminum cans, and plastic containers. This enhanced service follows recent service increasses downtown such as Sunday CTS service and additional trash service added in 2007. City of Charlottesville Announces Summer Youth Internship Program. Community Attention Teens Give will coordinate a 6 week internship program this summer. Penny Lane goes all-virtual! Located in downtown Charlottesville, Penny Lane Antiques will go virtual beginning April 1, 2008. By June 1, the store's inventory will be completely catalogued online at www.PennyLaneShops.com. The physical storefront will close on June 1. Owner Penny Latham opened Penny Lane Antiques & Gifts in 2001 in Leesburg, VA, and subsequently moved the store to Charlottesville in 2005. RUST REVIEWS LLC announces the launch of a new version of its website with a new, more user-friendly home page and more powerful search functions. The new website also provides a National Search engine feature designed to bring more customers to local businesses with a regional or national customer base. Rust Reviews helps member businesses collect customer reviews and posts them with a web listing for each member. Members can update their business information and post replies to their reviews 24/7. Increasing numbers of customers who are using the web to search for local businesses, Rust Reviews helps them find businesses with good customer reputations. Meetings DBAC's Board of Directors meet every third Wednesday of each month to discuss issues concerning Downtown Charlottesville. These meetings are open to members and anyone else interested in voicing their concern about Downtown area. DBAC's Events Planning Committee was recently formed out of the desire to maintain high participation and cooperation coming out of the success of the Downtown's 30th Anniversary. The Committee works to plan events in the long run and coordinate, implement, and publicize these events as they occur. Your ideas, questions, and concerns would be greatly appreciated. Meetings occur the first Wednesday of every month. If you can't come to the meeting, but wish to be involved, please contact our intern at 434.295.9073.
